To provide essential resources to overcome the many faces of hunger and human need.

Executive Director's Message - October 2015

Before the hectic holiday season begins, I would like to thank everyone in our community that supported our Run 4 Hunger in June. I want to give a special thank you to the Event Chair, Diane Hollingshead, who was instrumental in the success of this event. We raised over $69,000 for programs and services at the Food Bank.

On another note, I want to also express my deepest gratitude to everyone who attended and supported our Harvest of Hope Gala in September. The event was a huge success with almost 200 attendees, and raised over $25,000 with proceeds going to our building fund. I’d like to thank our Chairs Glenda Simas and Betty Hall, our Premier Sponsors Elk Grove Congregational Church and First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, our Diamond Sponsor Jackson Properties, Inc., our Live Auctioneer Vice Mayor Pat Hume, Master of Ceremony Jerry Braxmeyer, our Gala Committee Karla Haiberg, Kim Gillin, Phyllis Davis, our event volunteers, our gracious hosts Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Wertz, and everyone who made this event a night to remember.

We deeply appreciate that you remain ever committed to our mission of “providing essential resources to overcome the many faces of hunger and human need.” Our work is only made possible through your kind support and sincere compassion.

Although you may never know the names or hear the voices of the families, seniors, children, and homeless persons you have helped; you are making a difference in thousands of lives every month.

Thank you again for your generous support of Elk Grove Food Bank Services and those we serve.

With sincere gratitude,

Marie Jachino

Executive Director

Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta and Davis Ranch Donation

John Seigal, from the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta, in an effort to celebrate his 59th wedding anniversary and to give back to the community contacted Elk Grove Food Bank Services with an idea.  The nearby Davis Ranch has a Sloughhouse U-Pick program on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  John’s idea was to pick some produce at Davis Ranch, deliver and donate to EGFBS.

John told Peggy Davis of Davis Ranch his plans for all of the fresh produce.  Peggy explained that because of the Labor Day holiday EGFBS did not receive its regular delivery (donation) from Davis Ranch, and that he could load up his truck at no charge.

Although John’s plan did not go exactly as he planned, EGFBS is thankful for the donation of fresh produce from Davis Ranch and the time and effort to pick and transport the produce provided by John Seigal.
