Cathy’s Clothes Closet

The Clothes Closet has been renamed in honor of Cathy O’Neil who passed away in August, 2016. In 1994, after Cathy retired as a third grade reading specialist for the Elk Grove Unified School District, she founded the Clothes Closet and joined forces with Elk Grove Food Bank Services. Cathy was a founding board member of the Elk Grove Food Bank Services, a pillar in Elk Grove, and one of a kind. She was fiercely loyal, humble, and intellectually curious. A magnificent bigger-than-life woman with a giant heart, Cathy was of invaluable help to the Food Bank for almost 25 years. She left a legacy!

Clothes Closet Eligibility

Clothes are free of charge to all clients of Elk Grove Food Bank Services and families and children in partnership with the Elk Grove Unified School Student Support Services and Homeless Program. We offer clothing for all seasons, jackets/coats, socks, youth athletic shoes, and back to work career wear.

Pantry 4 Pets

Pet food for dogs and cats is distributed through our Emergency Food Distribution and at all our Mobile Distribution sites. A bag of kibble can mean the difference of a pet living with their family or entering a shelter. Like anyone who has been “adopted” by their furry kids, the clients of Elk Grove Food Bank love their pets. For some, especially seniors and the homeless, their pet is their only source of companionship. As more individuals struggle with the difficult choices of paying rent, utilities, health care, or buying food, some are forced to choose between keeping their pet and putting food on the table. Helping families and individuals stay together and keep their pets during times of economic hardship is crucial, not only for the family, but also our community. Like humans, animals deserve the basic necessities in life. The Food Bank is open for donations Monday through Friday* from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. *Exception: 4th Wednesday: Closed.
